A LITTLE ABOUT ME

I am originally from South Africa and 21 years ago I married an Irishman and we now live in Tunbridge Wells and have two daughters aged 15 and 17 and a 8 year old little boy.  I studied marketing in South Africa but when I came over to the UK, I got into event management which I truly loved.  Since having my children we decided that I would be at home with them for a while.   But always loving being busy and loving creativity, I decided to start a creative business for myself and work from home.

THE IDEA BEHIND MY SHOP

I started making mosaics when I went to visit South Africa quite a few years ago now.  My mother is a craft guru and can do anything from pottery to painting on material to mosaics.  I grew up in my mother’s pottery studio and just loved the sociability of the classes she gave, and the sheer elation when you see your finished item and know that you made it by hand!  She was the source of my inspiration and introduced me to mixed media mosaics where you can basically use different types of tiles and pebbles to beads; old jewellery; even make your own little inserts or tiles from polymer or pottery.  I just loved the idea of making a mosaic, but differently!

In the back of my mind I kept thinking I haven’t seen anything like this in the UK, where I live, and started looking around to see what was out there and how I can sell my work.  Which is where Etsy came in and I created my shop to sell my pieces.  I am only at the start of my journey and have a lot to learn but I think Etsy is the perfect site to get your home crafted items out there.  It’s great to know you’re surrounded by like-minded people, supporting each other.  As well as Etsy I am also selling my pieces at local markets in and around Tunbridge Wells, details of which I publish on my Facebook page.

MY DREAM...

My ultimate dream would be to have a shop where people can come in off the street to have a coffee, relax and create their own mosaic or craft, home away from home.  Also, to host regular classes and parties for all ages.   For now though, let my Etsy shop be the start of my dream!
